The operators of JR Hakata City, the new station building, and Kohei Yanagizawa, president of the core tenant Hakata Hankyu, held a press conference to discuss business trends one month after the facility opened. Everyone agreed that the public’s turnout had been greater than they anticipated, but that several issues needed to be addressed. The single day record so far was set on March 20, when 338,000 people came to the facility. The executives pointed out that lines of people waiting to enter shops are forming on the floors with restaurants, but that sales of fashions and sundries at some individual shops have not been as high as they hoped.
