GSDF Osprey Deployment To Saga Airport To Begin July 9

The Kyushu Defense Bureau has announced plans to begin deploying Ground Self-Defense Force (GSDF) Osprey transport aircraft to Saga Airport starting July 9. The adjacent military base, currently under construction, will be officially opened on that date, with the phased transfer of 17 aircraft from Kisarazu Base in Chiba expected to be completed by mid-August.

The bureau cited aircraft maintenance and safety considerations as reasons for the month-long transfer period. Details on training operations post-deployment are still under review. The announcement was delivered to Saga Prefecture officials by the bureau’s director, Yasuo Ebara, on April 15. Source: KBC
