Hakata Gion Yamakasa To Resume

Organizers of the Hakata Gion Yamakasa announced yesterday that the city’s biggest traditional summer festival would be held for the first time in three years. This year, both mobile and decorated floats will be used as before the pandemic. The festival will continue to take thorough measures to prevent infection and will require that those involved in the festival be vaccinated and undergo PCR testing. The general public will be asked to watch the festival on TV or other media to avoid the public’s close proximity to the festival. Depending on the situation closer to the date, the festival’s scale may be scaled down or postponed. Source: NHK
