Hakata Old Town Tourism Hub Planned

Fukuoka City announced on April 20 plans to develop a new tourism hub in the Hakata Old Town area by autumn 2027, aiming to increase visitor demand by highlighting the district historical assets. The project, named HAKATA EN TERRACE, is expected to cost about 300 million yen and will involve constructing a two-story facility in Dekimachi Park. A consortium led by hotel operator President Hakata was selected as the preferred developer. The first floor will feature a cafe and hands-on experiences such as making Hakata-style udon and mentaiko, reflecting the area connection to Jotenji Temple, regarded as the birthplace of udon and soba in Japan. The second floor will include an open terrace for residents and visitors. Source: Nikkei / Fukuoka City
