Hakata Port Extension Completed

Construction work to extend the quay on the western side of the Port of Hakata has been completed. The wharf now has enough room for two cruise ships to dock at the same time. Fukuoka City is aiming to increase the number of cruise ships that use the port. Since October 2016, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has spent approximately ¥4 billion on the project. Even though the number of cruise ships stopping at the port (326) in 2017 was the highest in the country, the facility has not been able to accommodate some vessels in the past due to its size. The cruise ship quay, which has been extended from 270 to 600 meters, began welcoming liners on September 4. Source: Yomiuri Shimbun, 9/5/2018
