In what is said to be the first initiative of its kind in Japan, Kitakyushu City announced that pregnant bus passengers will be charged half price for bus travel. The proposal is aimed to go into effect from December 1, with the city looking to create an environment that support parents in every step of the child raising process. The municipal transportation bureau has revealed that any pregnant person will be able to make the most of the scheme until their scheduled delivery date by simply displaying their maternity health record book at the sales counter when purchasing a ticket. The offer will not apply to season tickets. Source: Asahi Shimbun, 8/26/2017
