Hawks’ Sarfate Sets Season Record for Most Saves

Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks’ pitcher Dennis Sarfate set a new single-season record on September 5 by securing his 47th save of the season as he closed out a 6-5 victory over the Orix Buffaloes at Kyocera Dome. After the 11-inning game, Safarte stressed the importance of the team’s victory before thanking his teammates and the fans. In reaching the milestone, Safarte surpassed the previous record of 46 saves, which had been achieved by Hitoki Iwase with the Chunichi Dragons in 2005 and Kyuji Fujikawa with the Hanshin Tigers in 2007. The win not only extended the Hawks winning streak, but also reduced their magic number for clinching the Pacific League pennant. Source: Nikkan Sports, 9/6/2017
