Heatwave Hits Fukuoka; Typhoon No. 6 on the Horizon

A large and extremely powerful Typhoon No. 6 is moving northwestward over the sea to the south of Okinawa’s main island, drawing the region into its storm zone. It is forecasted to change its course eastward once it reaches the East China Sea. The Fukuoka Meteorological Office has issued a warning to pay close attention to the latest typhoon updates, suggesting the possibility of it approaching the northern part of Kyushu.

According to the Meteorological Agency, the typhoon was spotted heading northwestward over the sea southeast of Naha City on the afternoon of the 1st. After moving into the East China Sea, the typhoon is expected to alter its course eastward between the 4th and 5th.

In other weather news, the region experienced intense heat on the 1st, with temperatures reaching 37.4°C in Kurume City, 37.3°C in Itoshima City, and 36.9°C in Asakura City. The relentless heatwave is set to continue on the 2nd, with expected highs of 38°C in Kurume City, 37°C in Fukuoka City, and 35°C in Kitakyushu City’s Yahata Nishi Ward and Iizuka City. The Meteorological Office and the Ministry of the Environment have issued a heatstroke alert for Fukuoka Prefecture, advising residents to avoid going outside as much as possible and to take stringent precautions against heatstroke, such as using air conditioning appropriately and keeping well-hydrated.
