Heavy rain continues to hit the most of Kyushu and has resulted in fifty-six confirmed deaths, one cardiopulmonary arrest, and eleven reports of missing persons. The toll is expected to increase as search and rescue operations continue. While the Fukuoka Regional Headquarters of Japan Meteorological Agency announced a lowering of its heavy rain alert for northern Kyushu as of 11:30 today, the risk of sub-disasters remains high. Areas neighboring Chikugo River (Oita, Fukuoka, and Saga) Yamakuni River (Oita) Kikuchi River (Kumamoto) and other local rivers with already-high water levels could be hit by sudden flooding and the residents are strongly advised to remain on guard. Rainfall had weakened in some areas in Kyushu during the daytime on July 7, but newly formed clouds brought more torrential rain in areas including Nagasaki and Kumamoto; 42 mm/hr rainfall was recorded in Omura City, Nagasaki, and 34 mm/hr at Taragi Town, Kumamoto. Heavier rain is predicted for wider areas of Kyushu tonight, and people are advised to access evacuation information in case of necessity. As of 15:00 today, Fukuoka Prefecture reported 21 landslides, over-50 flooded houses, and more damages, and a significant part of them was found in the cities of Omuta and Yame.
