Hirado Castle will undergo a renovation to provide shirohaku (castle stays) accommodation to tourists, beginning in the summer of 2020. The castle stands in the city of Hirado in Nagasaki Prefecture and enjoys a vista of the downtown area and Hirado port. The Japanese government recently confirmed support for this shirohaku project with a subsidy of ¥70 million. The government wishes to change the roles of castles in the nation, which are currently from only historical sights, to a unique attraction enjoyable for international tourists.
