Huge Art Installment Outside New Hostel in Fukuoka

WeBase Hakata is set to open on July 14 as one of the biggest hostels in Kyushu. The 9-storey building will have 164 beds and offers reasonable accommodation for as little as ¥3,240 a night. The staff speaks various languages including English, Chinese, Korean and Spanish. The top floor will also include a lounge where travelers can interact and cook their own food. A huge 3-meter tall cat statue created by contemporary artist Kenji Yanobe has been installed at the entrance of the building. This new artistic creation which is dressed in a spacesuit and appears to be protruding through glass, aims to become something of a symbol for the city. Source: Asahi Shimbun 6/23/2017
