Ihara in Negotiations to Stay on as Avispa Coach

Fukuoka Avispa coach Masami Ihara is in negotiations to stay on for the next season, despite missing out on the chance to return to the top flight after a 0-0 draw in their play-off final against Nagoya Grampus. Grampus finished one place above Avispa in the regular season, meaning that they only needed a draw to win promotion to J1. Ihara took responsibility for the team’s results and confirmed that he would discuss his future with club President Takashi Kawamori. The 2017 campaign was Ihara’s third season in charge. During his tenure, the club gained promotion to J1 in 2015 before being relegated back to J2 in 2016. Source: Yomiuri Shimbun, 12/4/2014
