Let’s Bring the ILC to Kyushu, a group of young people in their 20s and 30s, continue to collect signatures in an effort raise awareness of the International Linear Collider (ILC), a cutting-edge particle accelerator. They will be outside the Tenjin Twin Building this Saturday (6/1) collecting signatures from 11:00 ~ 14:00. The group is a member of the ILC Asia-Kyushu Promotion Council, a public-private committee established to attract the ILC to the Sefuri Mountains on the border of Fukuoka and Saga Prefectures. The group’s canvassers plan to use their “youth power” to collect signatures by July when the Japanese candidate site for the collider will be decided. They aim to collect 1 million signatures. The other candidate site is in the Kitakami Mountains of Iwate Prefecture. Given its scale, the ILC is estimated to have an economic ripple effect of ¥1.1 trillion.
