Increase in Hotel Events Contributing to Rising Business Sentiment in Kyushu

According to the “Economy Watcher” survey released by the Cabinet Office on April 10th, the current situation judgment index (seasonally adjusted) which represents the business sentiment in the streets of the seven Kyushu prefectures rose for the second consecutive month, increasing by 0.6 points from the previous month to 56.7. This index has been above the dividing line of 50, indicating good or bad business sentiment, for seven consecutive months. Respondents stated that with the relaxation of measures against the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been an increase in the number of people using hotels for events such as weddings and welcoming/farewell parties. However, in Okinawa, the index fell by 4 points to 62.2 due to increased airfares and accommodation costs. The future outlook index for 2-3 months later rose by 0.9 points to 56.1 for Kyushu and by 3.9 points to 61.8 for Okinawa. Source: Nikkei
