Increased Minimum Wage in Kyushu Proposed

On July 31, an advisory body to the Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare has agreed on an increase for minimum wage. The committee decided that the minimum wage in the seven prefectures of Kyushu should be raised by ¥26 an hour. Once this is accepted, the base wage per hour will be ¥840 in Fukuoka Prefecture, while that of six other prefectures will remain below ¥800 including the country’s lowest-minimum wage of ¥787 in Kagoshima Prefecture. Some local companies that are already facing a lack of human resources anticipates an even more challenging situation. Source: Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, 7/31/2019
