In the first drug seizure of its kind since September 2019, a 71-year-old Indian man has been arrested for smuggling approximately 2 kilograms of illegal drugs worth approximately 113 million yen from Korea to Fukuoka Airport. According to the police, the suspect arrived at Fukuoka Airport on February 7th on a flight from Incheon International Airport in Korea, where he is alleged to have smuggled the drugs for profit at street level prices. He has been charged with violating Japan’s drug control laws. Customs officials at Fukuoka Airport discovered the drugs hidden in a suitcase carried by the suspect during a routine inspection. The police believe that the suspect received instructions from a third party via a communication app to pick up the suitcase containing the drugs at an airport in Qatar, before traveling through Korea to Japan. The suspect has denied the charges, claiming that he was unaware of the drugs in his suitcase. Source: NHK
