A new supermarket that utilizes state-of-the-art technology opened in Fukuoka. The store is called Super Center Trial and is located in Island City, Higashi-ku. One of the main attractions is the smart carts. These innovative shopping carts have a scanner attached to the back. Customers can scan the barcodes of products as they do their shopping. Approximately 700 smart cameras are installed inside the store to help the management company analyze consumer trends among different groups. The technology preempts potential personnel shortages, which has become a serious issue in this industry, and will ensure that the store does not run low on stock. Source: TNC, 2/13/2017
