An opening ceremony was held at the ROHM semiconductor plant in Chikugo City, Fukuoka Prefecture. The new building was constructed at the cost of approximately 20 billion yen and is the first expansion of a plant in Japan in 14 years. The new plant will produce “power semiconductors” used to control electricity in EVs (electric vehicles). Demand for power semiconductors is expected to grow with the global spread of EVs. In particular, ROHM’s semiconductors made of a next-generation material called SiC are expected to be used in EVs due to their superior durability and energy-saving performance. In particular, semiconductors made from a next-generation material called SiC, which ROHM produces, have exceptional durability and energy-saving performance and account for approximately 10% of the global market share.
