Itoshima City Hydroelectric Power Plants Started

Itoshima City has completed the construction of a small hydroelectric power plant at the Zuibaiji dam. Construction started in June 2015. The opening ceremony was held on Nov. 11. The dam has several additional purposes, including serving domestic water consumption needs and flood control. The hydroelectric generators have a maximum power output of 100 kilowatts/hour and will be able to generate up to 674,000 kilowatts per year, enough for about 190 households. Itoshima City aims for ‘chisan chisho’ (local production for local consumption) of energy. All generated energy will be sold to Kyushu Denryoku. Source: Mainichi Shinbun, Nov. 12, 2016
