Itoshima City developed a guidebook for its staff to promote foreigner friendliness. The guide introduces ways to replace formal office use terms with easy-to-understand phrases along with tips, including using shorter sentences and simple expressions. The proportion of foreigners in Itoshima City surpassed 1% (approximately 1,300 people) thanks to Kyushu University’s Itoshima Campus opening in 2005. The international population consists of more than 60 different nationalities, and over 90% of them can write, speak and read Japanese at least partially. Source: Asahi
