Itoshima Fishing Coop Took Unauthorized Fees

Itoshima City disclosed that a local fishing cooperative illegally collected mooring fees for 26 pleasure boats at two city-managed fishing ports. The cooperative charged up to ¥100,000 per boat annually without paying the required fees to the city. Despite three years of discussions, the cooperative resisted reforms, citing declining revenue. Following similar cases nearby, the city will demand repayment of up to 10 years’ worth of fees and overhaul port management. The cooperative admitted it should have acted earlier and pledged to comply. Source: NHK
