Japan Plans Stricter Rules On Dangerous Driving

A Justice Ministry panel has proposed introducing numerical standards to clarify the application of the dangerous driving causing death or injury law. Draft measures include setting breath alcohol thresholds at either 0.5 mg per liter of air or a stricter 0.25 mg, matching license revocation standards. Speeding at 40–50 km/h above the limit on roads with a maximum of 60 km/h is also being considered. The law could also apply when driving is deemed unsafe even if thresholds are not met. The changes follow high-profile fatal crashes, including a 2019 case in Oita City. Source: NHK
