Starting June 12, a Japanese-style ride-share service, where private drivers use their own cars to transport passengers for a fee, has launched in Fukuoka Prefecture. This initiative, operated by taxi companies, aims to address the taxi shortage in urban areas. In Fukuoka’s Minami Ward, a taxi company began recruiting drivers two months ago, hiring ten individuals who have undergone safety training. On the launch day, three drivers checked their alcohol levels and body temperatures before driving either their own cars or company-owned vehicles. The service is available in Fukuoka City and surrounding areas during specific hours: Monday to Thursday from 4 PM to 9 PM, Friday and Saturday from 4 PM to 5 AM the next day, and Sunday from 3 PM to 9 PM. The taxi company plans to continue recruiting drivers based on demand. Source: NHK
