Japan’s Yui Kamiji Takes Title at International Wheelchair Tennis

A new star was born at the 29th Iizuka International Wheelchair Tennis Match, which finished yesterday in Iizuka City, Fukuoka. 19 year-old Ms. Yui Kamiji (representing Japan) took out first place in the women’s singles category – the first title victory of her career. In the post-match interview, Ms. Kamiji said she was proud to hold her first trophy, having practiced every day in preparation. She said she went into the final match with a strong determination to win. In the past, Ms. Kamiji has travelled overseas by herself to participate in international tournaments, and her coach believes it is this experience which contributes to her fearless spirit on the court. The tournament takes place annually in Iizuka City, Fukuoka, and is placed by the International Tennis Federation as one of the four top-ranked wheelchair tournaments in the world as part of the so-called Super Series.
