Johnny Depp’s “Minamata” (Kumamoto) in Japanese Theaters Next Week

Johnny Depp is the producer and lead actor in “Minamata,” a period drama that brings light to the devastating industrial pollution disaster in Minamata (Kumamoto Prefecture). Alongside Japanese actor Hiroyuki Sanada, Depp portrays the story of American photojournalist Eugene Smith, who is documenting the harrowing effects of mercury poisoning on the lives of community members. Minamata is directed by Andrew Levitas and features shots filmed on location in Kumamoto. This film will be released in Japan on September 23.
