JR Kyushu will operate the first self-driving train trial for the JR-train services in Japan. The company announced on Dec. 22 that one of its two-car trains, called Dencha, will carry passengers between Saitozaki and Kashii and make twelve return trips per day. The company aims to bring a ‘driverless’ service (attended by a non-conductor) into practice to prepare for a potential shortage in the workforce in the future. Source: JR Kyushu / Nikkei / Asahi
