JR Kyushu to Acquire Hakata Plant Site

JR Kyushu and two partners announced on February 10 that they had signed a sales agreement to acquire the site of Asahi Breweries’ Hakata plant in Fukuoka City, which is scheduled to relocate to Tosu, Saga Prefecture, in 2029. The contract, dated February 4, covers approximately 126,200 square meters near JR Takeshita Station, an area with strong transport access and projected population growth. JR Kyushu, together with Nippon Steel Kowa Real Estate and JA Mitsui Leasing Kyushu, has not disclosed redevelopment plans but said it aims to contribute to community development around the station. Fukuoka City has requested part of the land for new school facilities due to rising student numbers, and JR Kyushu indicated it would discuss the matter if formally approached.
