The president of JR Kyushu, Toshihiko Aoyagi, announced at a press conference on Nov. 26 that the company would raise its train fares reflecting Japan’s consumption tax hike scheduled for October 2019. While its group company in the Kanto area has been adopting a fare system that calculates prices per one yen, JR Kyushu will continue current fare system with fares estimated at 10 yen to avoid incurring further costs for system renewal.
