A committee consisting of the chief municipal officers of local governments and other people in Kagoshima Prefecture has presented a plan for constructing small hydroelectric generating facilities at 40 locations on the prefecture’s waterways. The plan calls for the facilities to be built and operated with private sector funding, and for the local governments to select the sites to be used. The construction would take six years and cost 20 billion yen.
