Kagoshima to Become the Largest Base for Japanese Patrol Vessels

The Japan Coast Guard is planning to expand the capacity of Kagoshima Port to reinforce marine patrols around the Senkaku Islands in Okinawa. Reflecting the recurrence of the entrance of Chinese Coast Guard ships into the Japanese territorial waters around the islands, two new piers will be constructed in the Nanatsujima district of the prefecture. After the deployment of the three new patrol vessels with a helicopter (over 6,000-ton class) by the end of the fiscal year of 2020, Kagoshima will be the nation’s largest base for patrolling vessels.
