French company, Alban Muller, has announced a joint venture to export Karatsu-made cosmetics to other East Asian countries. Three businesses in Karatsu, Bloom, Matsuura Express and the cosmetic manufacturer, Toremy, will be involved in producing the new brand and exporting the cosmetics. Karatsu was selected because of its close proximity to China and South Korea, and as the Center for Scientific Research into Plant Medicine is in Genkai-machi, Saga. Karatsu City supports the business move and with local business and universities, will open the Japan Cosmetic Center within 2013. The first year’s export aim is 100 million yen worth of products.
