Kasuga City Official Arrested for Operating an Electric Scooter While Intoxicated

In the early hours of the morning, Yui Tachibana, a 24-year-old childcare worker from Kasuga City Hall, was arrested for driving an electric scooter under the influence in Fukuoka City. Unaware that DUI laws applied to scooters, Tachibana denied the charges, despite tests showing alcohol levels more than three times the legal limit. The incident has prompted a strong response from Kasuga Mayor Sumikazu Inoue, who expressed deep regret and emphasized the necessity of strict compliance and discipline among city employees. This arrest marks a significant enforcement of DUI laws concerning electric scooters, which have been legally operable without a license since last July for individuals over 16. Source: NHK
