Kirishima Shuzo, a major shochu manufacturer, announced a collaboration with Starbucks Japan to open a new facility in Miyakonojo City, Miyazaki Prefecture. The complex will feature a direct-operated Kirishima Shuzo shop, a drive-thru Starbucks, and a botanical garden, alongside a rooftop garden and lawn area with views of Kirishima Mountains and the river. Construction will start in fall 2024, with an opening planned for spring 2026. The facility will be powered entirely by biogas from shochu production waste, and heating will utilize distillation waste heat.
