Following a recent stabbing incident involving two middle school students at a fast-food restaurant in Kitakyushu, the city has decided to allocate an additional ¥2 billion in its supplementary budget for emergency security measures. The funds will be used to expand the installation of security cameras around major train stations and add security lighting along school routes.
As part of these measures, security cameras will also be installed in elementary, junior high, and high schools, including special-needs schools, to prevent unauthorized intrusions.
Additionally, Kitakyushu has drafted its initial budget for the next fiscal year, reaching a record ¥640 billion. This includes ¥1 billion for semiconductor industry development and ¥1.4 billion to boost inbound tourism. The city plans to submit both budgets for approval at the February city council meeting.
