The Kitakyushu Chamber of Commerce will begin offering industrial sightseeing tours this October. Working in cooperation with a Kitakyushu-based travel agent, the Chamber will develop eight courses originating from JR Kokura Station by September, making Kitakyushu the first city in Japan to offer industrial sightseeing tours on an ongoing basis. The Chamber started offering factory tours in 2011, but they originated in Fukuoka City, making it difficult for visitors to Kitakyushu to participate. The new tours will start on July 10 and cover places such as the Nikka Whisky factory in Moji, the early Showa-era Japanese restaurant Sankiro (which reopened this April) and the Yaskawa robot factory. Each tour is limited to the first 40 participants and the participation fee will start at ¥4,500, including lunch. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 6/6
