Kitakyushu City: Possible Bridge Fragment Found on Pathway

A piece of metal, thought to be part of the Wakato Bridge in Kitakyushu City, was found on a pedestrian path approximately 40 meters below the structure. The incident came to light when a passerby spotted the metallic debris on the morning of May 14. The fragment, measuring 40 centimeters in length and 10 centimeters in width, and weighing about a kilogram, was painted red and showed signs of rust, according to photographs taken by the city. While no injuries have been reported thus far, the city authorities believe the metal part is from the bridge and have cordoned off the surrounding pedestrian area as a precautionary measure. The city has planned an inspection of the bridge on May 15. The Wakato Bridge, a suspension bridge spanning roughly 2.1 kilometers, connects the Wakamatsu and Tobata districts of Kitakyushu City and was inaugurated in 1962. Source: NHK
