Kitakyushu City Proposes Switch to Biomass Plastic Bags

Kitakyushu City aims to reduce the environmental impact of plastic materials through a new project. Beginning in fiscal 2019, the city’s Plastics Smart Promotion Project will replace conventional plastic bags with biomass plastic bags made of plant-based materials. As plastic pollution becomes increasingly problematic around the world, the city is also planning support companies that promote reuse of plastic wastes by giving higher priority for its subsidy system. On May 30, a plan including a budget for the project will be proposed at the city’s June assembly. Source: NHK News Web, 5/20/2019
