Kitakyushu Marathon Medals Made From Recycled Materials

In what is believed to be a first, Kitakyushu Marathon will award medals made from recycled materials. In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Kitakyushu Eco-Town project, the February 18 race will award the top three runners with medals made from recycled small household appliances. The medals, which will be 8 cm in diameter and weigh approximately 500 g, will be produced in collaboration with local recycling companies. The main body will be made of copper, then plated with silver and gold. Kitakyushu Mayor Kenji Kitahashi stated that he hopes the medals will raise awareness about recycling. Source: TNC, 1/24/2018
