Kitakyushu City held a meeting on October 21 to discuss establishing a “Diverse Learning School” to support children unable to attend regular schools. The initiative, part of the national education ministry’s policy, allows flexible curricula and class hours tailored to students’ needs. The city reported 2,370 elementary and junior high school students were chronically absent in fiscal 2023, a rising trend.
