Kitakyushu Plans New “Diverse Learning” School for Non-Attending Students

Kitakyushu City held a meeting on October 21 to discuss establishing a “Diverse Learning School” to support children unable to attend regular schools. The initiative, part of the national education ministry’s policy, allows flexible curricula and class hours tailored to students’ needs. The city reported 2,370 elementary and junior high school students were chronically absent in fiscal 2023, a rising trend. The new municipal junior high school is scheduled to open in April 2027 at the Kitakyushu City Education Center in Yahatanishi Ward. Source: Kitakyushu City
