Kitakyushu recorded an estimated 2.345 million overnight visitors in 2025, up 23.9% from the previous year and its highest total to date. Overall tourist numbers rose 22.6% to 10.208 million. The city attributes the growth in overnight stays to stronger nighttime attractions, including Sarakura’s night views and Christmas markets, and its sushi-focused branding. Tourism spending increased 30.6% to about 127.99 billion yen, with overnight visitors spending roughly 25,000 yen each compared with 4,180 yen for day visitors. The city plans to use new hotels in Mojiko and restored direct flights to Taiwan to encourage longer stays. Source: Kitakyushu City
