Kitakyushu Starts SAF Fuel Project

A demonstration production line for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) feedstock began operating in Kitakyushu in April using waste liquids collected from restaurants and other businesses. The facility, operated by Sanix Group in Wakamatsu Ward, extracts and refines oil from waste materials to create feedstock for next-generation aviation fuel that produces lower carbon emissions than conventional jet fuel. Japan aims to replace 10% of aviation fuel used by domestic airlines with SAF by 2030. Sanix said the plant can produce up to 3,600 tons of SAF feedstock annually and hopes to commercialize the operation next fiscal year. Residual materials generated during the refining process will also be reused as liquid and solid fuels to reduce waste and emissions. Source: FBS News / TNC News
