Kitakyushu To Use Tax Donations For Tanga Market Project

Kitakyushu City will fund part of the redevelopment of Tanga Market through Japan’s “corporate hometown tax” system. The project includes constructing a new building to house a cutting-edge information engineering faculty of the University of Kitakyushu, scheduled for completion in FY2027. Rising material costs have pushed the budget to about ¥3.9 billion, nearly double initial estimates, leaving the city and university to cover ¥2.3 billion after subsidies. To ease the burden, the city aims to raise ¥300 million from corporate donations, with applications opening mid-October. Source: NHK
