The Physicians’ Association of Kokura Ward, Kitakyushu City is promoting a program to allow Indonesian nurses who came to Japan under a bilateral agreement but failed to pass the national nursing exam to take the exam again. In place since fiscal 2013, the system produced its first successful test-takers this February. Kitakyushu hopes the the program will help alleviate the shortage of nurses in regional areas.
