In what will come as a blow to donut-lovers across Fukuoka, Krispy Kremes has announced that it will be closing all its Fukuoka branches (of which there are currently three: Amu Plaza Hakata, Tenjin Chikagai and Marinoa City) on Jan. 31, 2016. Kitakyushu-based Krispy Kreme-addicts, however, will be glad to know that the Kitakyushu branches are here to stay. But Fukuokans need not despair: Fukuoka-based and proudly independent Canezees Doughnut has collaborated with Banks to open a second donut shop, called Coffee & Doughnut in Nakasukawabatta (along the river). Enjoy baked donuts in flavors ranging from kinako to Amaou, as well as their special vegan donuts. Read our gourmet report on Canezees Doughnut’s original store here.
