Kumamoto Castle Main Keep Reopened

Reconstruction of the main tower of Kumamoto Castle was completed, and public visitors were able to lookout from the keep for the first time in five years. The castle was severely damaged when a huge earthquake hit the region in 2016. The restoration took place between Feb. 2017 ~ Apr., 2021 to implement earthquake-resistant structures to the tower. Records of reconstruction up to now are exhibited in the visitor’s section, while restoration continues in other parts of the castle until 2037. Source: NHK / Yomiuri
