Kumamoto Company President Accused of Food Labeling Violation

The President of a seafood company in Arao City, Kumamoto, was arrested by the police in Fukuoka on suspicion of violating the Food Labeling Law. The arrest was made on the suspicion that the President and two acquaintances conspired to sell approximately 100 tons of Korean abalone as Kumamoto abalone to a seafood company in Ube City, Yamaguchi for about 41 million yen from May of three years ago to November of the following year. The investigation so far has revealed that the accused’s company sold over 8,200 tons of falsely labeled abalone. Source: NHK
