Two weeks after the magnitude-seven-level shaking in Kumamoto, 22,697 homes had been damaged across the prefecture. The reported death toll was 39, including people suspected of having died from disaster-related causes, while 3,810 people remained in evacuation shelters. In Uki City, 677 residents were still displaced, including 117 at the Matsubase-area shelter featured in the report.
