Kumamoto Eyes Urban Renewal Fueled by New City Hall and Semiconductor Growth

The City of Kumamoto convened its Urban Strategy Council on April 2 to discuss long-term urban development plans centered around the construction of a new city hall and the growing semiconductor industry led by TSMC. It was the 12th meeting of the council and the first since the semiconductor giant’s entry into the region. Mayor Kazufumi Onishi emphasized adapting to major changes, highlighting assets like Kumamoto Castle and redevelopment of the old city hall site. The council includes officials from local government, academia, and business. A new committee will formulate a grand design for the downtown area toward 2050. Source: NHK
