Kumamoto Prefecture’s Jikei Hospital Asks for Government Assistance for Creche


In May 2007, the Jikei Hospital of Kumamoto City began a crèche program in which it anonymously accepts babies that parents cannot care for. Since then, the hospital has received 51 children and talked the parents out of giving up another 130. Directors of the hospital recently held a press conference in which they called on the national government to fund facilities in every prefecture to provide 24-hour consultation to women who want to give up their children.
