Kumamoto University Partners with TSMC to Nurture Semiconductor Talent

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the world’s foremost semiconductor contract manufacturer, has entered into collaborative agreements with Kumamoto and Kyushu Universities. These partnerships aim to advance semiconductor research and nurture future industry talent, coinciding with the imminent operation of TSMC’s first Kumamoto facility. The initiative seeks to strengthen the semiconductor workforce in Kyushu by leveraging academic collaborations.

Signed in March and April, these agreements will see TSMC providing scholarships, educational lectures, and internship opportunities to students. The collaborations are further enriched by joint research and workshops, involving TSMC’s Japan-based subsidiaries, which are instrumental in operating the Kumamoto plant, developing leading-edge design technologies, and advancing 3D packaging technologies.

TSMC expressed its commitment to playing a significant role in semiconductor talent development within Japan. The partnership with Kumamoto University, the first of its kind concerning the Kumamoto plant, signifies a strategic move towards fostering close-knit research collaborations in the region.
